Mary Magdalene

Open Your Heart

Biography:

Mary Magdalene was one of the closest followers of Yeshua (Jesus) and one of the most important women in the New Testament. Named repeatedly in the Gospels, she is portrayed not as a distant observer, but as a devoted companion who remained near Jesus through his ministry, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.

Mary came from the town of Magdala on the Sea of Galilee and is described as having been healed by Jesus early in his ministry. After this, she became one of his most faithful followers, traveling alongside him and supporting the community around him.

In the Gospel accounts, Mary Magdalene remains present at the crucifixion after many of the disciples have fled. She is also the first to visit the tomb after Jesus’ death, arriving in grief before dawn. In one of the most famous resurrection scenes, she fails at first to recognize the risen Christ until he speaks her name: “Mary.” Because of her role as the first witness to the resurrection, later tradition sometimes called her the “apostle to the apostles.”

Over centuries, Mary Magdalene became surrounded by legend, reverence, and misunderstanding. In Western Christianity, she was often incorrectly merged with other unnamed women from the Gospels and portrayed primarily as a repentant sinner. Modern scholarship generally distinguishes these figures and emphasizes her role as a devoted disciple, spiritual witness, and central presence within the earliest Christian story.

Inner Meaning:

What is the meaning of “sacred intimacy”?

Can we love something or someone so deeply that we go beyond the sense of division or separation?

Can we love so deeply that we are emptied of “self”, that the distinction between inside and outside becomes meaningless, or the distinction between love and not-love?

This is the love that Mary represents—a love not found in the words, but which has breathed the words into being. Too often overlooked, too often dismissed, and which yet represents the highest aim of our knowledge and our seeking.

This is the love that can see God in the form of a human being—this is the love that can surrender the ego and let the heart blossom as a flower offering to the Divine.

Let the Oracle become a doorway into the richness of our shared human inheritance.

Truth • Dare • Contemplation

Each guide offers the possibility of receiving a Truth, Dare, or Contemplation.

You may play with friends as a kind of mythic truth-or-dare game — a way of moving beyond small talk into honesty, creativity, vulnerability, and genuine encounter.

The prompts are not intended to be dangerous or reckless. Their purpose is to open a space for play, reflection, courage, and human connection.

You may also use the Oracle alone, as a companion for contemplation, journaling, inquiry, or creative inspiration.

There is no fixed way to play.
