Marco Polo

A Step Into the Unknown

Biography:

Marco Polo was a 13th-century Venetian merchant, explorer, and traveler best known for his journeys across Asia and his accounts of life in the court of the Mongol ruler Kublai Khan. Born into a family of merchants in Venice, Marco Polo traveled east with his father and uncle along the trade routes later known as the Silk Road, eventually reaching the vast Mongol Empire.

According to his accounts, Polo spent many years in the service of Kublai Khan, traveling through regions of China, Central Asia, Persia, and Southeast Asia while observing the customs, cities, religions, technologies, and trade networks of the time. His descriptions introduced many Europeans to worlds they had never imagined, including enormous cities, paper money, coal, complex canal systems, and the wealth of the East.

After returning to Venice, Marco Polo was captured during a naval conflict and imprisoned in Genoa, where he dictated the stories of his travels to a fellow prisoner. These accounts became known as The Travels of Marco Polo, one of the most influential travel books in history. Though some readers doubted parts of his story, the book helped shape European ideas about Asia for centuries and later inspired explorers such as Christopher Columbus.

Over time, Marco Polo became a symbol of curiosity, cultural encounter, and the human impulse to journey beyond the known world. His story stands at the meeting point of trade, myth, exploration, and the longing to discover what lies beyond the horizon.

Truth • Dare • Contemplation

Each guide offers the possibility of receiving a Truth, Dare, or Contemplation.

You may play with friends as a kind of mythic truth-or-dare game — a way of moving beyond small talk into honesty, creativity, vulnerability, and genuine encounter.

The prompts are not intended to be dangerous or reckless. Their purpose is to open a space for play, reflection, courage, and human connection.

You may also use the Oracle alone, as a companion for contemplation, journaling, inquiry, or creative inspiration.

There is no fixed way to play.
